The COVDI-19 pandemic has affected Carrefour’s original schedule of business travel meetings, making us even more dependent on the assistance of the virtual conferencing system. In comparison with other systems, the GMH smart teleconference suite was priced 75% cheaper. We were amazed by its performance on video, voice, presentation and other modes, ensuring the smooth completion of important meetings within the group. This set of solution is loved and affirmed by colleagues in Taiwan, and we are planning to expand the deployment of this equipment in the future.
Founded in France in 1959, Carrefour is one of the world’s largest retail groups. It currently holds its place as the largest local retailer in France, European countries and Taiwan. In 1987, with the optimistic prediction on the development of Asian countries, Taiwan was the first market Carrefour entered in Asia and later on quickly became the first mass merchandise store in 1989. With the changes in Taiwan’s market demand and business environment, Carrefour Taiwan has so far owned more than 100 large-scale retail stores and supermarkets, and started to provide online shopping services in recent years.
How should companies adjust to the new norm when telecommuting gradually becomes the daily routine and video conferencing starts to replace physical meetings? Carrefour Taiwan collaborated with ASUS and Master Concept to provide employees with a high-quality conference experience through the intelligent remote video conferencing solution “ASUS Google Meet hardware kit”, the best platform for multinational conferences.
New challenges under the pandemic
The pandemic in 2020 has severely affected the global economy in all industries. This situation has not only accelerated the digital transformation of enterprises but also completely changed the operation strategy of organizations. Online meeting solutions have become one of the key methods for global multinational companies to maintain their operation. For instance, Carrefour Taiwan has successively introduced multiple sets of Google Meet Hardware kit (GMH), a smart remote video conferencing kit launched by Google and ASUS. Master Concept assisted in the deployment and technical support, allowing Carrefour Taiwan to maintain close contact with the French headquarters during the epidemic.
Virtual meeting breaks the limitations when remote working becomes the new norm
In order to stand out in the highly competitive retail market, Carrefour Taiwan purchased two large-scale video conferencing systems early on, so that colleagues in different departments can communicate at any time and make decisions in real time through virtual meetings. Due to COVID-19, many countries have adopted lockdown policies and companies have started remote working, considering the limitations of large-scale video conferencing systems and how Carrefour is already the user of Google Workspace Enterprise, the French headquarters has decided to use Google Meet for online meetings worldwide, so that employees can easily participate even when working from home.
Although all employees can access Google Meet on their own devices, there are still various issues such as echo when multiple people join a meeting in the same meeting room, the camera cannot cover everyone, etc. Carrefour Taiwan began to look for meeting equipment that can be matched with Google Meet. ASUS GMH smart teleconference kit (ASUS Google Meet hardware kit) is therefore favored. It has not only been installed and built-in at all meeting rooms at the head office, but was also deployed at branches in advance before the epidemic breakout to make it easier for frontline employees to participate in online meetings.
Kiki Ho, Customer Success Manager at Master Concept who assisted Carrefour Taiwan throughout the entire project and provided follow-up technical support, pointed out that although Google Meet can operate on multiple platforms, it will inevitably encounter unstable video quality and poor compatibility. The ASUS GMH smart teleconferencing suite which effectively solved the aforementioned problems, and can easily be integrated with Google Calendar, Google Docs etc, allowing smooth virtual meetings between team members and customers, real-time collaboration or multi-person video calls, and enterprises to build exclusive virtual meeting rooms.

Regarding the security concerns, this solution has security patches and functions that are automatically updated to the latest version to avoid attacks from viruses or other malicious programs to ensure the security of customer information and connection. At present, the ASUS GMH smart teleconference suites have been deployed in the meeting rooms at the Taipei head office which improve and stabilize Carrefour’s operations in the post-epidemic era. Carrefour Taiwan will be installing more GMH equipment at other four major business divisions to improve the quality of the company’s internal meetings and strengthen the speed of responding to the consumer market.
When we used Google Meet on a personal computer or laptop in the past, we tried to connect speakers on our own, but the results worsened the meeting effect." Dave said: "When our colleagues first used the ASUS GMH Smart Teleconferencing Suite during the POC stage, they were very surprised by the video and sound quality of this product, especially the smoothness of the presentation mode was much better than most of the large-scale video conferencing equipment, and this was the key which lead us to make the purchase immediately.
