Google’s G Suite is rebranding with a new name “Google Workspace” in order to reposition the productivity suite for remote teamwork. Together with the new brand, Google is rolling out several feature upgrades available to paid Workspace customers and will be rolled out to consumer and education users in coming months.
“Our new Google Workspace brand reflects this more connected, helpful, and flexible experience, and our icons will reflect the same,” “Work is no longer associated with a physical place we go to,” said Javier Soltero, Google vice president and head of Workspace.
So, what is new in Google Workspace?
- Create and collaborate on a document with guests
Google is trying to integrate the feature in Gmail, Chat and Drive to make it easier for business users to connect with customers and partners – those outside your organization and ensure that everyone has access and visibility to the same document. You’ll be able to dynamically create and collaborate on a document with guests in a Chat room which helps to share content and directly work together.
- Linked previews and Smart Chips
You can now preview linked files in Docs, Sheets and Slides without having to open them in a new tab which will help to reduce time spent moving between apps and more time to get the work done. Moreover, whenever you @somebody in a document, Google Workspace will also pop up a Smart Chip to show you contact details and suggest actions, for example, start a video call, chat, etc.
- Meet picture-in-picture
You may find that Gmail and Chat already have a picture-in-picture mode early in July, that allows you to have Google Meet video calls within those products. This feature will be rolled out to Docs, Sheets and Slides in the coming months to let you pitch a proposal or walk through a document with interactions
We believe that Google will keep updating the features in the coming months in order to bring new user experience to consumers to help them using integrated tools like Gmail, Chat, Meet, Docs, and Tasks. Master Concept will keep updating the blog and get you the latest about Google Workspace.
